Alexander Godunov. Escape to nowhere

     On August 19th ,1979, at about nine o’clock in the morning from a room in the New York hotel ‘Mayflower’ left a man, walking confidently in the direction of the exit, and then instantly dissolved into the millions-strong megapolis of a city, like an ant disappearing in an ant-hill covered by millions of other ants. The next day the whole world riveted their attention on this young man who looked like a classic hero. News blocks of leading world telechannels, except for Soviet, broadcasted his photo. Then, in 1979 the Soviet dancer Alexander Godunov during his foreign tours in America asked for political asylum. What drove this man to commit such an act, which resulted in loosing his wife and partner on stage Lyudmila Vlasova, the woman for whom he was ready to ‘take on the whole world’?
